SetRise Studios
In the summer of 2021, a group of artists and long-time friends banded together to form SetRise Studios, an all-queer production company built on the philosophy that collective imagination is the key to making good art. Gathering in our hometown of Tucson, we set out to make our first feature, CameraChild, a sci-fi gender parable about a kid named Lucky who sees an invisible magic camera following them everywhere they go. In the film, an eccentric couple named Riz and Liz live in a camper out in the desert, where Lucky comes to seek laughter, advice and solace. When I told my hairdresser Stephanie about the scene, she immediately referred me to The Island. Much in the spirit of the film, The Island's Glamper offered us a space to unleash our creativity and embody the unique desert artistry and intimacy captured in the film.
