Jusqu'à présent tout va bien - Till Now Everything Is Fine (2011-2016)
When I heard Gilles Deleuze* saying in an interview in 1988, "If one is not ashamed to be a human being, then he does not make art" I understood better why it was so difficult for me to find the boundaries between my idealistic visions of human presence on this earth and the reality of our everyday life.
By integrating organic materials with the help of paint on the canvas I want to re-root myself and the others in the natural world after being misled by the artificial virtual modern era. When I kneel down on the virgin black volcanic sand that I brought with me to my studio from the island of Guadeloupe and take it in my hands, I am rooted to the ground unlike Icarus who intended to release himself from the gravity that held him to the human condition. With such a gesture of digging in the volcanic sand I learn to become humble, accept what humanity is and paint a new paradigm.
I paint, sculpt, photograph and write poetry creating series in a way to dig further deeper into my feelings in front of the present that I barely sense and a future I do not control. Even if I believe meanings and concepts are necessary to support a piece of art, I like to leave that aside as I attach more importance to the feelings and emotions coming from experimentation. Instead of the famous quote by René Descartes** "I think therefore I am" I would rather declare, "I make therefore I am".
