Bas-reliefs (2023-Ongoing)
While working on the previous series Not A Landscape Painting, not only I have found a way to distance myself from landscape representation, but I have also discovered a new material that could satisfy my obsession with impastos.
I want with this series to investigate how human figures were represented during the classical art era and see when the bodies are withdrawn from their context if they can still carry their message.
I draw the shape, cut and glue the felt and paint the figure like in the references I use and then I partially erase the whole like time have erased colors on classical sculptures.
The paper versions are cropped views of the original classic masterpieces on Arches paper.
