A Certain Distance/An Uncertain Time (2018-2021)
I use the horizon line as a metaphor of the end of life. A certain distance that we can see if we look at it carefully, but that we don't know when we shall reach it. Jean-Paul Sartre wrote in Being and Nothingness, "It is not because we expect death, that we wait for it." Francis Bacon said also that more we live life with intensity, more we are conscious of death; but I don't agree with Bacon, I think it is the opposite that happens. More one is conscious of one's finiteness, more one will live intensely.
The empty space between the viewer and the horizon as we can see it in a wide landscape (desert or sea) makes possible a true and necessary reflection about the purpose or meaning of one's life. No entertainment, no activity, no ego, no noise.
Time is the enemy of durability; time is used to control people and to make sure they are efficient in time. Durability is the experience of life, and we all know that some days are longer than others.
